On March 8th, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services agency, part of the Department of Homeland Security, released a revised Form I-9. most of the changes are related to instructions and formatting to prevent errors and mistakes while filling the form out. Also included now are fields for foreign passports and information collection such as email addresses.
The Form I-9 is a requirement for any new hire to prove their eligibility to work in the United States. This screening process is a very basic and standard screening policy mandated by the Federal government.
Employers who do not switch right away have until May 7th when the revised form becomes required.
